You Say 03:26
You say, don't let 'em see what you want Don't give away all your thoughts You say, don't let 'em see in your heart You say, what's the point in making them feel good Well for now, I'm gonna try it anyway Yes you're right, I don't know her at all But she might be the nicest human of them all That's what you say But I won't tuck away, how I feel I'll let you see How smitten I am every step of the way Take a good look at my heart Take a good look at my heart
2.
You carry the weight, there's no way around Try cross the lake, try not to drown Don’t start to love what’s dragging you down Find your way back You call out her name in the night But all that you fear will be alright Come on give in to the tides Together we’ll live the simple life We’ll rise and bloom to the rhythm of the sun At night our loving hearts they’ll keep us warm Together we’ll live the simple life Together we’ll live the simple life oh Grab your old coat, it's all that you need The cloud in our hearts it needs to get freed Up on the hill our true selves we meet The sun is our guide The warmth of our hands The air that we breath The tangle of life The calmness beneath We will find love We will find love We will find love We’ll rise and bloom to the rhythm of the sun At night our loving hearts they’ll keep us warm Together we’ll live the simple life together we’ll live the simple life oh We’ll rise and bloom We’ll rise and bloom Together Together we’ll live Together we’ll live the simple life

Yourself 04:04
High up I hold that mirror It only shows What you’re supposed to see It‘s such a delicate job To keep the odds in favour Working hard So you could fall for me Let yourself feel The way you did as a kid Let them come Right at you Show your joy your fear Yeah what your made of Be the sweet kid You could have been Yeah love yourself You might be the only one around Yeah everyone else Is busy praising their own clown This island‘s always been A hidden gem Advertised on all The channels known There‘s all one would ever need A warm home and the church of love It’s just that everyone’s already An island on their own Yeah love yourself You might be the only one around Yeah everyone else Is busy praising their own clown Yeah love yourself Yeah love yourself Yeah love yourself Love yourself

There‘s this part of the night Where imagination‘s not your friend Your thoughts are going wild To places hard to comprehend Feel all this guilt, with little reason Remorse about anything and everything Just try breathe and be easy Tell your heart to stay cool And in the morning on the tramway Where everything just seemed fine But then within a split second You’re shaken to the spine Brace yourself for another round The sense of loss is so profound But the tramway keeps crusing the city streets And your life will go on Yeah your life will go on Just try breathe and be easy Just try breathe and be easy Breathe and be easy Breathe and be easy Breathe and be easy Tell your heart to stay cool Breathe and be easy Breathe and be easy Breathe and be easy Tell your heart to stay cool Cool

Oblivion 05:07
Every time you dare to cross The bridge to love and later loss Drop your armor, so you won’t harm her This time And every time it feels like home A perfect world under the dome But tried and true, girls got armor too Big time Oblivion Oblivion The day you’re back on your own Those blooming fields turn to stone All the laughter and the tears Dull thereafter they disappear Into oblivion Oblivion Into oblivion Oblivion All the laughter and the tears Dull thereafter they disappear Into oblivion, into oblivion Into oblivion, into oblivion Into oblivion

Don't you worry about that stain on my heart It's always been there There is nothing that you could have done To fix or break it I, I was just getting used to it Don't you worry about that stain on my heart If sometimes sadness is calling me home Just know I'll come around I'll climb some rooftop and I'll face that storm Until it's worn out I would hate to see us grow apart Don't you worry about that stain I'm as slow as they come I'm as slow as they come But I'm getting there I dream of taking you to the city hall It just might take another year I sure can feel you through my rugged cell wall Being with you tear to tear I'm a slow breeder but I'm getting there So don't you worry about that stain I'm as slow as they come I'm as slow as they come But i'm getting there Give it time, we'll be fine Give it time, we'll be fine We'll be getting there I'm as slow as they come As slow as they come Give it time, we'll be fine As slow as they come

Another storm Is on its way And we're all Busy feeding it We're dealing blows Just to feel alive To conceal We're powerless For every dollar Someones song's gone astray Still we sound sincere But remain empty shells For every dollar Someones song's gone astray Another storm Is on its way Used to be friends But one by one By fear and hate We're overcome So we're pulled and bend And hollowed out Turn on each other Every man for himself For every dollar Someones song's gone astray Still we sound sincere But remain empty shells For every dollar Someones song's gone astray Another storm Is on its way Oh Oh Oh For every dollar Someones song's gone astray yeah Another storm Is on its way

The Grudge 04:18
Will bitterness get us Will anyone weep Will we be part of the cure The songs that we're writing The struggles we're getting thru Will they be a waste Or might they light a fire Come on Aileen, let's not be mean To one another The grudge within, will bite us back One way or another The youngsters I nurture The skills that I teach 'em Will they put them to good use Or might they start wars Who knows Will we be part of the cure Yeah might we light a fire Come on Aileen, let's not be mean To one another The grudge within, will bite us back One way or another Come on The grudge oh Will bitterness get us Will bitterness get us, get us, get us
9.
Lake Of Love 04:52
Come around to the lake of love Calm and leaden it‘s luring me in Just for a while, on it‘s charming shore Lay down my head and dream Over the surface My eyes they search Oh I can see her Full of promises she can’t keep Defying the perils of darkest deeps With strokes of confidence she‘d swim across She‘d take me with her, to live a happy life With friends and cake And tenderness Oh and empathy With ease and warmth and thoughtfulness But over and over At night I‘d lie awake Troubled I’d sneak out I’d roam the pale moon light And I’d come around to the lake of love And I‘d dream about my true love over here Oh I’d dream, oh I’d dream, oh I’d dream, oh
10.
The Cloud 03:30
I live on a cloud made of dreams about you And there's no place I d'rather be Down in the streets there's a storm But it feels so unreal while you’re holding me I'm counting the stars in the calm of your eyes And I wonder how would it be If we stayed hypnotized loosing time for a while We might never be the same I live on a cloud made of dreams about you And there's no place I d'rather be Down in the streets there's a storm But it feels so unreal while you’re holding me I'm counting the stars in the calm of your eyes And I wonder how would it be If we stayed hypnotized loosing time for a while We might never be the same Oh, oh

about

In his Debut, singer-songwriter Patrick Lerjen aka Silver Birch melds the cornerstones of his musical identity to a world of soothing song-lines that evoke names like Ben Howard, J. Tillman or Bon Iver.

In Silver Birch’s songs, slow drums, wavy guitars, and lush 70’s synths & string-machines set the scene in the realms of indie-folk and alternative-rock. As a singer, Lerjen is not afraid to show his vulnerability, but nevertheless unmistakably claims his right to be heard. He contemplates about the hardships we face and our shortcomings as humans, but there’s always a grain of hope to be found in his songs.

Growing up, Lerjen was strongly influenced by the female perspective of his early bubble of cousins, 7 girls and him as the only boy. In that spirit, as a singer, he was mainly moved and inspired by female artists like Feist, Joan As Police Woman, Julia Jacklin, Sophie Hunger or Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker.

As a guitarist, Lerjen’s biggest influences were Bill Frisell and John Abercrombie (he originally studied Jazz-guitar), but he then started to be drawn to the more folksy guitar stiles of Feist, Madison Cunningham and Jose Gonzales.

For years Lerjen had been writing, playing and producing songs for colleague singers, but more and more it started to feel strange to him, letting somebody else sing his thoughts. When in 2016 he decided to give singing a try, it wasn’t an easy ride; every day, over the course of three years, he worked on his voice and songs in the solitude of his room.
In 2019, he finally mustered his courage and played a first solo concert under the name Silver Birch. Luckily, it turned out to be a very empowering and rewarding experience. He continued to play intimate local shows, solo and in trio-formation with Tobi Diggelmann on keys Thomas Blanchat on drums.

When in 2020 the pandemic brought a halt to all live-concerts, the band drew back to the shelter of Lerjen’s one-room studio and recorded 19 songs, which will be released in the following months.
